Only as Beautiful as the Objects it Reflects
These works were created by 3D scanning different landscapes, structures, and vegetation. Along with each 3D scan a 360° HDRI image is captured from the same site.
First, the 3D scan gets cleaned upped and optimized to be 3D printed. Before printing the model is brought into a 3d environment where it is given a mirrored texture within the software. The 360° HDRI image then gets placed in the scene as the spherical environment around the object. The reflections on the objects surface then get baked into its surface creating a new texture that welds the reflection of the environment to the surface of the object. The resulting full-color 3D prints let you access the object’s original environment by looking onto the object’s surface to see the reflected environment.
A set of three full color 3D prints will be included in the up coming exhibition Light and Matter: The Photographic Object at the Michener Art Museum opening on February 18th.
